Who installs burglar alarms for businesses in Hertfordshire?

We do. DC Fire & Security is SSAIB certificated for intruder alarms and covers the whole county from Luton with no travel charge. We fit and monitor alarms for shops, offices, industrial units and landlord properties. Monitoring starts from about £150 a year, and we give a fixed price once we have seen the building.

What Hertfordshire premises need from an alarm

The county is a mix of commuter-belt towns, business parks and rural edges. The risks differ between them.

  • Business parks and industrial units. Big empty buildings after hours, with deliveries and stock. Movement detectors indoors, door contacts on loading doors, and a signal that someone responds to. See warehouse alarm systems.
  • Town-centre shops and offices. Short opening hours, upper floors and rear access. Keyholders who live a distance away make monitoring more useful. See shop alarm systems and office alarm systems.
  • Rural and edge-of-town sites. Outbuildings, yards and farms where a bell may never be heard. See farm and rural alarm systems.
  • Landlord premises. Empty flats between tenants, commercial units between lets, and blocks with shared plant rooms. Covered below.

Hertfordshire sits between the M25, M1 and A1(M). That makes the county easy to reach quickly, which is useful for a visitor and for a thief. A site that is quiet after six should have more than a bell on the wall.

What your insurer is likely to ask for

Read the policy schedule. Insurers set the alarm conditions, not the installer.

Many commercial policies require an alarm to be installed and maintained by a certificated company, to a stated grade, and set so it is switched on whenever the premises are empty. Some require a signalling link to a monitoring centre. Others reduce the premium for one. We cannot see your policy until you send it, so we check the clauses before we quote.

  • Grade. Intruder alarms are graded under EN 50131. Higher-risk premises or higher stock values often point to Grade 3. See Grade 2 versus Grade 3.
  • Certificated installer. Many insurers ask for a recognised certification body. See what SSAIB certification means.
  • Maintenance. A yearly service is often a condition, and a missed one can matter at claim time. See alarm maintenance contracts.
  • Keyholders. Some policies name two people who can attend. Make sure the list is current.

Choosing an installer is covered in how to choose an alarm installer.

Monitoring: who answers when it goes off

A bell tells the street. A monitored alarm tells a person.

With monitoring, the alarm signals to a receiving centre. The operator calls your keyholders and, where the alarm qualifies, can request a police response. Police response generally needs a unique reference number issued through a certificated installer and a confirmed activation. The force decides whether to attend. Our page on police response and URNs explains the process.

Monitoring starts from about £150 a year. The price depends on the signalling method, one or two paths, and how many keyholders. Options are in business alarm monitoring options and bells-only versus monitored.

Landlords: empty properties and rented units

A vacant property is the easiest one to get into, and often the last one anyone checks.

If the building is also a licensed HMO or a block of flats, the fire side is a separate matter. See fire risk assessments in Hertfordshire.

How an install goes

Three steps, with the price agreed before we start.

  1. 1Survey. We walk the premises, note entry points and check the insurance clause. You get a fixed price.
  2. 2Install and commission. Detectors, panel, keypad and signalling are fitted, tested and explained. Everyone who needs a code gets one.
  3. 3Monitoring and service. We connect to the monitoring centre and set the yearly service.

We also cover burglar alarms for business and intruder alarms in general. If you want cameras alongside, see CCTV installation in Hertfordshire.

Certification

SSAIB certificated

We are SSAIB certificated for intruder alarms. You can check the entry yourself on the SSAIB register before you book. Many insurers ask for a recognised certification body, so ask yours what it accepts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install burglar alarms for homes in Hertfordshire?
Our focus is businesses and landlord properties, including rented homes and empty properties. Send us the details of what you have and we will say if we can help.
Will my insurer reduce my premium for a monitored alarm?
Some do and some require one. It depends on the policy and the cover. Check the schedule or ask your broker, and send us the clause if you want us to confirm the alarm meets it.
Will the police come if my alarm goes off?
Not automatically. Police response generally needs a unique reference number through a certificated installer and a confirmed alarm, and the force decides whether to attend. Our URN page explains.
How much is alarm monitoring?
From about £150 a year. The price depends on how the alarm signals and how many keyholders are on the list. We confirm it with the quote.
Can you fit an alarm to an empty property for a few weeks?
Yes, a temporary alarm suits that. See temporary alarms for empty properties.
Do you charge for travel in Hertfordshire?
No. We are based in Luton and do not charge travel anywhere in the county.
