Anyone can legally fit alarms; certificated firms volunteer for independent audit — installations inspected against EN 50131/PD 6662, complaints procedures, insurance, vetted staff, and ongoing surveillance visits. The practical consequences for you: insurer alarm conditions ('installed and maintained by an NSI or SSAIB approved company') are satisfiable, police URN applications are possible at all, and a certificate of compliance lands with the handover.
