Fire door inspections and repairs in Wixams
By Sebastian Grabowski, DC Fire & Security, Luton. Updated October 2026.
Who inspects and repairs fire doors in Wixams?
DC Fire & Security inspects and repairs fire doors in Wixams and the rest of the MK42 area. We are based in Luton, roughly 18 miles away by road. An inspection is £250 + VAT for up to 10 doors, then £25 a door, and you get a photo report with every door graded. If doors fail, we price the repairs door by door from that report, or from someone else's. Since September 2025 we have inspected more than 700 fire doors, most of them in Luton schools.
Fire doors in Wixams
Wixams is the new town being built just south of Bedford. On newer blocks the doors are usually sound, and the common failures are closers that have been adjusted, seals painted over and gaps that have opened up as the building settles.
Most of our Wixams enquiries are for newer blocks of flats, schools and community buildings, and the commercial units in the town centre. Wixams is in Bedford Borough, but the fire door rules are national, so what matters is the type of building and what your fire risk assessment says.
What we check on every door
- Gaps around the door measured at the head and both sides, and under the door
- The self-closer: does it close the door fully and latch it from any angle
- Intumescent strips and smoke seals: present, the right size and not painted over
- Hinges: at least three, fire rated, with every screw in place
- Latch, lock and any letterplate or viewer: fire rated and fitted properly
- Glazing and beads: fire rated glass, firmly held
- The leaf and frame: damage, holes, cut-outs or signs it was never a fire door
- The label or plug that shows who made the door and its rating, where there is one
- Fire door signage on both faces where it is needed
Each door is graded in the report with photos, and every fault has a priority, so you know what to fix first and what can wait. Inspections are carried out to BS 8214, the code of practice for fire door assemblies. Our reports are written to be easy to read: the overall result on page one, every fault with a photo and a deadline, and a page for each door. See a demo report.
