What does commercial CCTV installation in Slough involve?

A site survey, a camera plan that matches what you need to see, installation, and a handover covering signage, retention and who can view footage. We design to BS EN 62676 and we are SSAIB certificated. We cover Slough from Luton with no travel charge and fix the price once we have the survey.

Yards and trade units

The fault is usually the camera position, not the camera.

Yards and trade units share the same problems. Vehicles come and go, lighting changes, and the boundary is long. A camera that sees the gate but cannot read a number plate in the dark is no use after a break-in.

Our survey asks what each camera is for. Identifying a face at the door, reading a plate at the gate and watching a perimeter need different lenses and mounting heights. See where to position CCTV cameras, the warehouse buyers guide and CCTV for car parks.

Units on an estate often share a landlord. Check your lease and ask your managing agent before cameras go on the building or point at shared areas.

What a CCTV survey covers

A short visit that saves a poor installation.

  1. 1Purpose. What you want to see, and why. Theft, access, safety, disputes.
  2. 2Camera positions. Field of view, height, lighting at night, glare, and what can block the picture.
  3. 3Cabling and power. Routes, switch locations, and a recording point that is out of reach.
  4. 4Recording. Storage for the days you need, covered in how much storage CCTV needs.
  5. 5Access. Who views live and recorded footage, remotely or on site.

We design to BS EN 62676, the European standard series for video surveillance systems. We then give a fixed price. Our guide to comparing CCTV quotes helps if you are getting several.

Data protection basics

Business CCTV records people, so data protection law applies.

The Information Commissioner's Office publishes guidance for organisations using CCTV. In plain terms, you should:

  • Know why you are recording, and write it down
  • Point cameras at what you need, not at neighbours or public pavements more than you must
  • Put up clear signs saying CCTV is in use and who runs it. See CCTV signage requirements
  • Keep footage no longer than you need. The ICO sets no fixed period, so choose one, record it and stick to it
  • Limit who can view and export footage, and have a way to handle requests from people filmed
  • Check whether you must pay the ICO data protection fee

The ICO guidance is under review, so read the current version on its site. We set up retention and access with you at handover. The ICO's CCTV for your organisation page is a good starting point.

Linking CCTV to the rest of your security

Cameras work best alongside other systems.

A monitored intruder alarm reports an event, and CCTV shows what happened. Access control logs who entered. Our commercial CCTV page covers business systems in more detail, and the main CCTV installation page has the national overview.

Price depends on camera count, cable runs, storage and whether you want remote viewing. Our CCTV cost guide explains what moves the price, and we quote a fixed figure after the survey. More on the area is on our Slough page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need signs for business CCTV?
Yes. Signs should say CCTV is in use, who operates it and a way to contact them. Put them where people see them before entering the camera's view.
How long can I keep footage?
There is no fixed legal period. Keep it no longer than you need for your stated purpose, record the period you chose and delete on schedule.
Can I point a camera at the public road?
Limit it to what you genuinely need. Pointing cameras at public space or neighbours needs a stronger justification and extra care.
Can I view cameras from my phone?
Yes, with secure remote access set up. We cover logins and permissions at handover.
Is a survey chargeable?
We can often price from photos and a site plan. Where a visit is needed we confirm the terms before we come.
Where do you work?
Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, London, the Thames Valley and the East Midlands. We are based in Luton and do not charge travel.
