Automatic gates, barriers and bollards — installed, force-tested and maintained

Automatic gates and barriers control who drives onto your site and keep vehicles out where they shouldn't be. We install and maintain swing and sliding gates, rising-arm and boom barriers, and rising bollards for homes, business premises, car parks and estates. Every powered gate is installed and force-tested to the safety requirements of the Machinery Directive and BS EN 12453, integrated with your access control, intercom and CCTV so entry is controlled and logged — and kept safe and reliable on a maintenance contract.

Who is this for?

For homeowners, estate and facilities managers, developers, and commercial sites that need controlled vehicle access — installed safely and legally, and integrated with the rest of the security system rather than as a standalone gate motor.

  • Homeowners wanting an automated driveway gate with intercom and app control
  • Commercial premises controlling staff and visitor vehicle access
  • Car park and estate operators managing entry with barriers or bollards
  • Managing agents responsible for gated residential developments
  • Industrial and logistics sites needing heavy-duty sliding gates
  • Sites with an existing gate that has become unsafe or unreliable
  • Developers specifying access at the design stage of a new scheme

Gate and barrier problems we resolve

  • Powered gates installed without a force-safety assessment — a legal and safety liability, as automatic gates are classed as machinery and have caused fatal crushing injuries
  • Gate motors that have failed or become unreliable, leaving a site unsecured or vehicles trapped
  • Gates and barriers with no safety edges, photocells or force limitation to stop them closing on a person or vehicle
  • Standalone gate automation with no link to access control, so entry can't be managed or logged
  • Intercom or keypad entry that no longer works, forcing staff to open the gate manually
  • Bent or damaged barrier arms and bollards after vehicle strikes with no maintenance cover in place
  • No maintenance regime, so a gate that should be safety-checked regularly is left until it fails or injures someone

What's included in our gates and barriers service

Site Survey & Specification

We assess the opening, ground conditions, traffic type and duty cycle, and specify the right gate or barrier — swing, sliding, rising-arm or bollard — for the site.

Force-Safety Compliant Installation

Every powered gate is installed and force-tested to BS EN 12453 / BS EN 12604 with the safety devices — photocells, safety edges and force limitation — the Machinery Directive requires.

Access Control Integration

Gates and barriers are linked to keypads, fobs, ANPR, intercoms or your existing access control so entry is managed and logged, not left open.

Intercom & Remote Entry

Audio or video intercom and app control so visitors can be seen, spoken to and admitted from a handset or phone before the gate opens.

Safety Documentation

We provide the risk assessment, force-test results and CE/UKCA declaration for the completed powered gate installation.

Maintenance & Repair

Planned servicing keeps the safety devices working and the mechanism reliable; reactive call-out covers strikes, faults and storm damage.

Scope of works

Our qualified engineers carry out the following as standard:

Automatic swing gates for driveways and entrances
Sliding (cantilever and tracked) gates for wider or heavy-duty openings
Rising-arm and boom barriers for car parks and site entrances
Automatic and removable rising bollards for pedestrian and restricted zones
Underground and above-ground gate motors and control panels
Photocells, safety edges and force-limitation safety devices
Keypad, fob, ANPR and intercom entry integration
Loop detectors and free-exit ground loops
Force testing and safety compliance documentation
Planned maintenance and reactive repair

How it works

01

Survey

We assess the opening, ground, traffic and duty cycle, and recommend the right gate, barrier or bollard for the site.

02

Specification

We specify the automation, safety devices and entry method, and design the integration with your access control and CCTV.

03

Installation & Groundworks

Our engineers carry out any groundworks, install the gate or barrier, motor, control panel and safety devices.

04

Force Testing

We force-test the powered gate to BS EN 12453 and set up the safety devices so it stops safely on contact.

05

Handover & Maintenance

You receive the safety documentation and declaration, and we set up the maintenance regime to keep it compliant.

Frequently asked questions

Are automatic gates legally classed as machinery?
Yes. A powered gate or barrier is classed as machinery under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, so it must be risk-assessed, fitted with the right safety devices, force-tested and issued with a declaration of conformity. Automatic gates have caused fatal crushing injuries, which is why force-safety compliance is not optional. Every gate we install is force-tested and documented.
What safety devices does an automatic gate need?
At minimum, force limitation (so the gate stops if it meets resistance), photocells to detect a person or vehicle in the path, and usually safety edges on the leading and closing edges. The exact combination comes from a risk assessment of that specific gate. We fit and test the devices needed to make the installation compliant with BS EN 12453.
Can I open my gate from my phone?
Yes. We fit intercoms and controllers that let you see and speak to visitors and open the gate from a handset or smartphone app, wherever you are. Entry can also be by keypad code, fob, remote, or automatic number-plate recognition for known vehicles.
What is the difference between a swing gate and a sliding gate?
Swing gates hinge open like a door and suit driveways with room for the leaf to swing and reasonably level ground. Sliding (cantilever or tracked) gates slide across the opening, which suits wider entrances, sloping ground, or where there is no room to swing. We recommend the type that fits your opening, traffic and space during the survey.
Can the gate be linked to my access control and CCTV?
Yes, and we recommend it. Linking the gate to access control means vehicle entry is managed with the same fobs, codes or permits as your doors, with a single audit trail of who came and went. Adding CCTV at the entrance records each entry event alongside the video. We integrate all three so the gate is part of the security system, not a standalone motor.
How often should an automatic gate be serviced?
A powered gate should be inspected and its safety devices re-tested regularly — typically every six to twelve months depending on use — because photocells, safety edges and force settings can drift or fail over time, and a gate that has lost its safety function is dangerous. We provide maintenance contracts that keep the gate safe, reliable and documented.
Can you repair an existing gate or barrier from another installer?
Yes. We take on maintenance and repair of existing gates, barriers and bollards regardless of who installed them. We'll inspect the installation, carry out a force-safety assessment, put right any safety shortfalls, and offer an ongoing maintenance contract so it stays compliant.
