By the DC Fire & Security engineering team — installing and maintaining fire and security systems since 2010. Updated June 2026.
Door entry faults cluster into five: the lock release failing (power supply or lock wear — most common), specific flats not ringing (handset or riser wiring), no audio (handset cords and mics), blank or poor video (camera, sunlight or cabling), and total system death (power supply). Old analogue systems fail flat-by-flat; the cure is often targeted, not wholesale.
Parts for 1980s–2000s analogue systems (handsets, panel modules) are increasingly obsolete; one obsolete handset model can strand a whole block's repairs. The arithmetic we walk clients through: a third consecutive call-out on a 25-year-old system usually exceeds the monthly-equivalent cost of a modern GSM replacement that ends in-flat hardware problems entirely. Conversely, a single failed PSU or one bad handset on an otherwise healthy system is a straightforward repair — replacement pitches for every fault are a sales reflex, not engineering.
We install and maintain fire and security systems across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and London — with fixed written quotes, a 36-month warranty, and certification your insurer will accept.
